The never-ending appeal of period homes with historic pasts never fail to enthrual us and Old Hayes Inn in Northiam is one of those special properties being offered for sale (being a three bedroom property in need of updating and improvement). Almost 450 years ago in 1573 Queen Elizabeth I reputedly dined on a meal baked in the bread oven and sat under an Oak tree whilst resting on a journey to Rye - now known as the ancient 'Elizabeth's Oak'.
